FAQ

What is a broker/dealer?

In the United States, FINRA and the SEC regulate securities transactions. With some exceptions and exemptions, corporate ownership transitions are considered securities transactions under federal and state law.  Securities transactions must be conducted under the supervision of a registered broker/deal by registered representatives, such as Investment Bankers.  Lytestream Advisors, LLC strive to be compliant with all laws and regulations.  Our team includes FINRA Registered Investment Banking Representatives who work under the supervision of a FINRA registered broker/dealer.  LyteStream Advisors, LLC is not a broker/dealer.

How long does it take to sell a company?

On average it takes 6-12 months to sell a company.  We collaboratively prepare your company for sale, develop marketing materials, and contact prospective buyers.  Then we negotiate offers and support the buyer’s due diligence process.  Some transactions can be faster and some take longer, depending up the deal.

How long does it take to buy a company?

Generally 9-12 months, but it really depends upon how clear your objectives are for the acquisition.  If you have a specific target in mind then it can go fast (if the target is willing to be acquired).  On the other hand, if you have very broad criteria and your objectives change, then it can take > 12 months.
